Melville plays a lot with style. The story will suddenly shift from first person to third person, from novel to stage play, from mildly dull to incredibly boring. In PRANK THE MONKEY, I employ similar devices, where I cut from straight storytelling to a movie script, a blog, or a white-knuckle thriller. The only difference is that my book is interesting. Note to Melville: WE LOST INTEREST IN WHALES ABOUT 490 PAGES AGO.
